Love Arts Festival Leeds 2012

May 2012.

An opportunity has arisen to get involved in the Love Arts Leeds Festival again this year. It is really early stages but there is a chance of being able to run some workshops with the public. I do not know very much more but Marianne is organising meetings about it in June so that should inform us of whats going on.

I really enjoyed it last year so it would be good to get more involved this year in different ways.

Nexus Art Cafe

May 2012.

Nexus Art Cafe in Manchester is a non profit organisation which invites people from all walks of life and backgrounds to come and join in with creative activities and become a part of the creative community. They put on exhibitions, workshops, events, music, crafts, and more.

I have emailed them about gaining work experience as an Art Intern as I feel they would be really good organisation to be involved in. The mix of work they do with different people is something I am really interested in getting involved in as well as seeing what it takes to run an organisation such as this. I am keen to learn and broaden my knowledge of opportunities.

The opportunity posted on their website...

Zine Workshop

May 2012.

After helping out at the kids zine workshop at Ante Bookfair, I have been asked if I want to go back and help out at Loosely Bound's next event on 5th June. I am really excited that I have been asked to go back. They have also invited me to join their collective. Marianne has said that it is unpaid but they can pay for my travel expenses, and through doing the workshop more opportunities may arise for paid work. Its a good way to get myself out there, network and gain experience in a fun environment.

Ante Bookfair 05/05/12

May 2012.

Through conversations and discussions with Marianne I got the chance to go and help out at the Kids Zine Workshop at Ante Bookfair. I was really nervous as I have never worked with kids in this sort of environment before and I am keen to gain more experience with working with people through creative activities. As I am interested in zine and book making this seemed like a perfect oppurtunity.

The kids seemed to be really engaged with creating stories in the zine format. They has the best imaginations. I feel I engaged with the kids and as the day went on my confidence grew. They seemed to really respond to me and I feel them and myself both got a lot out of the day. I left feeling excited  about the whole experience and would like to do it again!

It was really good to go along as I am beginning to develop understanding and skills in the crossovers between practice and working with different groups of people. There are many opportunities there are out there to work with different people in through creative activities.

Garnets Website

May 2012.

My illustrations of Grizzly Bears have become a feature on the band Garnets website which has just gone live. They really liked them and felt that they were the perfect beginning and end to the website scroll.

This is really exciting because it means my work is being seen in a different context and by people who may not otherwise see it. Garnets have also now asked if I want to create some original artwork for the single and EP releases which I am currently working on.

I feel this is good learning experience, working with a client as their has to be constant dialogue and conversation about developing ideas and work to make sure both parties are happy. I have never worked in this way before so I think its going to be a really beneficial for me, developing my confidence and learning about working to certain requirements in this way. I feel it will help me develop in my future professional pratice.

International Bookfair

March 2012

I went to the International Bookfair and also helped out on the VIS COM stall. It was really fun and interesting, people seemed to really respond to the books on our stall and were asking a lot of questions. We noted down particular books and people who were interested in buying as none of the books were actually for sale. There was loads of handmade zines/prints/book sculptures that were really amazing. I could have looked around forever. It was really encouraging to see how handmade books etc were presented in a professional context and sold.
